How Transpods Work
Transpods can perform the following functions:
- Record the current life form, including clothing / equipment / cybernetics on an atom by atom basis, and save this as a "skin" in the Hub database. Anything jumpers need beyond what they carry into the transpod must be scanned into an Assembler and fabricated at the jump destination or procured from a local source.
- Instantly transport any consciousness from one transpod to another, regardless of species or anatomy.
- Creator transpods only: Recreate any skin in its database at any transpod. This process, where a skin coalesces from a quantum cloud, takes almost no time at all, and the moment a skin begins to form, the jumper's consciousness inhabits it.
After jumping, a traveler remains in the destination transpod for a period of time while their consciousness acclimates to its new skin, a process colloquially known as "gelling." The specific amount of time needed depends on the difference between the original body and the skin. Note: As described in the section on jump scarcity, one of the key limitations to Creator Tech is the consumption of Proten power. Fabricating a complex skin in a transpod and using an Assembler to generate an extensive equipment loadout consumes a tremendous amount of power. Creator Tech will recharge the Protens, but this process takes time.
Once you are inside a transpod, the Creator scans your mind to see if your consciousness is capable of jumping. The three principles that govern all interaction with Creator tech are curiosity, intention, and commitment. Specifically with regards to transpods, the process works this way:
Curiosity activates the interface. Intention reveals possible destinations. Commitment initiates the jump process.
This means that a transpod will only work if a sentient being has some understanding of what Creator Tech does; is aware of concepts like space, stars, and galaxies; and possesses the desire to jump somewhere specific (whether that's the Hub or another known destination). As a result, no one can jump against their will.
Once the Creator tech has cleared you to jump, it projects an interface into your mind. This interface is unique to each user; a jumper will see a personalized version of the Astrograph with visual data about their own previous experiences connected to planets they've been to alongside information about other potential destinations. The transpod will understand your intent and be able to identify where you want to go.
Human interpretation of the principles that appear to govern Creator tech is that the Mass-O was designed to reconverge many different cultures for the benefit of the universe. If a culture is not sufficiently evolved, it will not be able to contribute to the reconvergence; possessing curiosity, intention and commitment is a cosmic measurement of evolutionary suitability.
- Simple lifeforms that can't hold a complete consciousness will not be recorded. You can't jump into a fish or an ant.
- Each jump you do is a saved version of you.
- You can leave a 40-year-old version of your skin and jump into one from when you were 20, but ONLY if you jumped when you were 20 and thus have that version of you saved in the system.
- If you have a broken bone, disease, etc. when you are recorded, the skin will have the exact same issue.
- It can safely transport life forms with multiple consciousnesses.
- Transpods will not transport children or neopyhte creatures without a fully formed brain. Because of this, a pregnant mother can't use a transpod.
- Transpods will not transport lesser creatures (viruses, worms, pigs, velociraptors, whales).
- Creator transpods adapt depending on the skin being created (organically growing to accommodate size, providing an aquatic environment, etc.).
- Ori is the term used to refer to the body you were born into (short for "original"). Skori is a related slang term that is a combination of "Ori" and "Skin."
