Null Agent Network

Not much is known about the Null Agent Network, which is precisely how the members – all elite mercenaries – want to keep it. What little has been learned over the years since the Network was first established has been gathered from the few targets who have survived and those who have witnessed the agents at work. From what the Merge has been able to find out, it appears that most of the Null Agent targets are criminals; this is not to say that Null Agents are benevolent or follow a code that spares the innocent, however: all of them are hired guns who will accept contracts that involve morally and ethically questionable actions.

At this point, the Null Agent Network has an outsized reputation that is based as much on rumor and self-serving myth-making as it is on the reality of their collective accomplishments. That said, the Null Agent Network is, in fact, the most notorious, and exclusive, mercenary group in the universe. If they’re coming after you, odds are that you’ll be captured or killed (based on what they’ve been hired to do), and there won’t be much you can do about it.

The Null Agent Network operates on all known worlds, with agents accepting jobs via a decentralized and encrypted digital network, where the more accomplished a mercenary is, the greater the number and the higher the quality of contracts available to them. To measure relative proficiency, Null Agents earn points for every completed job; the riskier and more difficult a task, the more points are added to the agent’s ledger. The end result is an internal ranking system which unlocks access to the best jobs and provides bragging rights. More than a few Null Agents have been killed by competing mercenaries, all to move up the leaderboard.

There have been rumblings within the Merge bureaucracy that shutting down the Null Agent Network should be a Keeper priority, but those efforts have not, to date, gotten much traction.
