Discovery Landers

Discovery Lander: Important Notes (NEW)

0min

Discovery Landers operate with the fundamental principles of Creator Tech: Curiosity activates the interface. Intention reveals possibilities. Commitment initiates the process.

A sentient being can only enter a Discovery Lander if it possesses an appropriate level of curiosity, intention, and commitment (understanding of the universe and what the Discovery Lander is/represents). Once inside, the being's consciousness will manifest all that it needs (transpod, Assembler, etc.).

Creator Tech is relentless as it attempts to fulfill its specific function. So when the Discovery Lander is damaged or trapped by changing planetary conditions (ice age trapping the Lander deep within a glacier; eruptions encasing it in rock), it spends however long it takes (possibly eons) repairing itself, using the Servitors to free it, tunneling to find a way out of its prison, etc. Eventually, it will once again focus on its mission: to connect this world and its life (sentient or not) with the Hub.

When a Discovery Lander has emerges from a Progenitor ship, it is approximately 2 kilometers in diameter. Once it has established itself on the planet surface, however, it can and will expand to match the terrain. A Discovery Lander adapts to the world it lands on: it becomes like an oil-derrick on a planet covered in water, or goes to the bottom of an ocean if the sentient life forms are aquatic.

To gather the materials that it needs for various functions (building Servitors, operating Creator Transpods and Assemblers, expanding the Lander's footprint), Discovery Landers send tendrils down into the planet where, like the roots of a tree, they leech what they need from the ground. Most Discovery Landers end up on planets without sentient life. On some planets they become part of a city/mecca, but in most locations, they’re isolated, alone, on a planet sustaining basic life forms.

On some planets, the native population may not have encountered the Discovery Lander, RUROSTBUU jhDTE4yMFJSS0QxSU40ODNKRTFJTTZRQjVFQ0c2S1RCREUwRzc4UTM1RTlJSU84M0tEMUlOSTgzREQ1Sk1HVDEwQzlJSTBPQklFOUtOQ1FCRUNTRzZVUkgwQzRHN0VSUklESEkyMFQzOEM1UTIwUTMxRUNHNlNSUDBENUk2QU85MEQxTk5FODNLRDFJTkk4MzdEVFEyMFQzOENMUDZBODNGRThHN0VRM1A0MVE2R1BCUDdUUDZBODNLRDFJTjRQOUU=.

Wherever a Discovery Lander sets down becomes the most important place on a planet/in a system.

• During the Great Fracture, Progenitor ships still seeded planets with Discovery Landers, but they were "locked" from the moment of arrival: they did not send out Servitors to survey the planet nor open their doors to sentient life. They simply rooted in place and waited for the Fracture to end.

Landers already on a planet when the Fracture began immediately shut down: Servitors either returned to the Lander or powered down in place, and the doors to the Lander shut and would not reopen until the Fracture ended.
