True Names
Before you can jump, you are supposed to acquire a True Name from the Merge. It is unwise to share your True Name with anyone.
Your brainwave signature is recorded into a database stored on the Hub. When this is done, the recipient is given a unique sequence of common sounds that represents their True Name.
Someone can confirm their true identity, regardless of the body they are in, by speaking their name into a personal communicator. This can't happen until you are 16-years-old for humans, or of similar age developmentally for other races. Your brain patterns need to be fully developed.
As a security feature, this process can't be used backwards -- you can't scan someone and find their true name.
True names are very long. An example:
- Chi-Ta-Ke-Tor-Veh-Va-Toi-Neh
Tracking someone via their True Name: Locating and apprehending someone using a True Name is a process that requires restricted access to the Merge's True Name database as well as the need for highly regulated tech (to match the True Name with the speaker). Only security officials like Keepers and high-ranking Merge politicians have the ability to do this.
