Timeline Details
At the center of the known universe is the Mass-O, a device built by the Creators.
Orbiting it is a controlling space station called the Hub.
Over a million years ago, the Mass-O started producing Progenitor ships, which it sent in every direction looking for life.
The first sentient life was not found for over 300,000 years. By this time, the Creators had disappeared.
During what is known as the First Cycle, five origin species coexisted on the Hub. Little is known about this time and the Origin 5, but the remains of their construction is still on the Hub today.
300,000 years ago an event called The Great Fracture locked all the existing Hub worlds (the Landers powered down), including every location found thereafter as Progenitor ships continued to explore. The locations of the Origin 5 races was lost, along with most information about who they were.
After the Great Fracture began the Second Cycle.
493 years ago, humans discovered a crashed, fragmented Progenitor ship on Mars. It was 'hacked' to allow humans to travel to the Hub.
From the Hub, humans are able to unlock Hub Worlds (planets with a Discovery Lander transpod system) however they wish.
In the time since, they have traveled to many of the Hub worlds and encountered dozens of sentient species. Some of these species have integrated into the Hub and some have chosen to remain isolated.
Despite the information gleaned from the myths, legends and ancient records of these sentient beings, the central mystery of The Great Fracture remains unsolved. Now: There are hundreds of thousands of Hub locations that are waiting to be explored, and new ones are regularly being located by the Progenitor ships.
Exploring a new location is dangerous. The atmosphere could be toxic; indigenous flora and fauna could be hostile, even deadly.
Most new Hub worlds have simple life forms, not sentient life. Discovery Landers are sent to any planet supporting life, even if it's just plants and single-cell organisms.
