MindLink

1min

Most people on the Merge worlds have been injected with nanotechnology that creates a digital interface connected to the Merge "internet." This interface, known as the MindLink, is a holographic image superimposed on reality that allows for personal communication, data access, and other common tasks (banking/commerce, etc.). The screen moves with the user and emanates from an individual's forearm, but it is not anchored there: the "bubble" that forms allows the user to pivot to see images, text, and video that is fixed in place.

With the nanotech implant, an individual can see their own 270-degree bubble (and interact with it via a mental interface) as well as the bubbles of others, but only their own "screen" is clearly visible (the information on other screens is blurred, unless someone chooses to reveal it).

The MindLink also serves as a universal translator. When someone uses a language other than Common, the MindLink uses nanobots to generate sound waves within a user's ear, translating the language being spoken (so long as it has been added to the Merge database).
